Brown Swiss (Braunvieh) is believed to be one of the world's oldest cattle breeds, with origins traced back over 4,000 years to the Alps of Switzerland. They are the third-most recorded dairy breed globally, prized for exceptional milk composition and longevity.

Brown Swiss milk contains the highest protein content of any major dairy breed — a critical economic advantage in milk payment systems that reward solids rather than volume. Their milk's A/B beta-casein composition makes it particularly valuable for high-quality cheese production.

Brown Swiss are exceptionally hardy and long-lived, with many cows producing well beyond their tenth lactation. They adapt well to diverse climates and are increasingly popular in tropical dairy development programmes.
